I've read that at Nouruz, the Iranian New Year, seven traditional items starting with 's' are placed on the 'haft seen' table. Most sources say that these are : samanoo (wheat pudding), sumac (dried crushed berries), serkeh (vinegar), seeb (apple), sombol (flowers), sear (garlic), and sekkeh (coins). But some others replace sekkeh with senjed (dried lotus fruit). And others talk about 94 coins in a dish, as well as a mirror, decorated boiled eggs, pictures of relatives etc. So what are the right things to put on the table?
In Iran, what are the seven traditional items placed on the haft seen table at Nouruz?
Hi, there is some alternatives. for example if you can not find Senjed you can replace it with Sekeh (coins) all of these you mentioned are accepteble but the rule is that the total number of items must be7 parts. another common alternative item is Sabzeh (green plants usually wheat)
in addition there are some other items that are not part of Haft Seen but traditionaly we use them such as mirror, pastries, red fish in a spherical aquarium, colored eggs, and Quran.
these are not parts of Haft Seen but they may be accompaning with it.

What shoes do i wear???
there's a dress that i have [that i love!] and i dont know what kind of shoes to wear with it. the dress goes to right above my knee and is made out of a floaty fabric. im sorry that there's no picture, but please use your imagination as well as you can. its an empire waist dress with 1inch thick straps. the main color is a sandy golden tan. there are large turquoise and coral pink lotus flowers on it. and there are leaves that have shades of dark green and gold, but the leaves are not very noticible. the whole dress looks very asia-inspired.
if you can think of anything to go with it, even if u know nothing about shoes, any answer will be appreciated.
P.S.
no flip-flops or flats where im going in the dress!
What shoes do i wear???
A pair of gold sandal type shoes.
Would they look good with green alligator skin winkle pickers or whatever they are called?
If your buying them, don't invest in wedges, biggest shoe fad ever (apart from uggs)
Reply:I'd say look for a black shoe that has a very small heel. Wedges are deffinitely not something to wear with a dress like that. Besides, wedges are ugly as it is.
I know you said no flats, but i think they'd look great with the dress. Maybe try to find a pair of flats that have a small heel on them. Some of them look very nice with dresses.
Reply:wedges would be nice
Reply:I would wear a sandal with a spiked heal........
Reply:i would say go for either a coral, gold, turquoise or dark green color of shoe. Even if the dark green isn't very noticeable, a shoe can always pop. So i found a few that you might like;

Do you give joyful attention to the beauty all around you?
I had an answer deleted about beauty but I would still like to share a moment of true beauty I experienced yesterday. I was in a Botanic Gardens watching a one year old child - arms outstretched and walking with that adorable unsteady walk of a new walker - following two pigeons which kept moving just out of his reach. A huge fig tree towered overhead and the filtered sunlight dappled a pattern on the ground all around. The child's mother stood nearby beaming with love. The pigeons grew tired of the persistent pursuit and flew to a nearby pond edge where pink lotus flowers were in full bloom. The child stood motionless - arms still outstretched - gazing towards where he had last seen the pigeons. I was struck with wonder at the profoundly indescribable beauty in this simple moment.
Why is it that when we put our joyful attention into life - into the moment - that life seems to reward us? Is this where freedom lies?
Do you give joyful attention to the beauty all around you?
Yes I gave attention to the beauty around me. I have a coin in my pocket and it has a quote from the book of Psalms. "This is the day the Lord has made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it."
I read it every day and actually look to the light of day and every day I read it I find some beauty. In a dogs happy tail, a rhubarb poking up through the spring dirt, a beaver's kit in the quarry, and the neighbours kids laughing.
It's all around us isn't it?
I would think that our freedom lies in our own decisions in our lives that guide us to wherever we find ourselves. It's a "free will" to me, this freedom we look for, or already have. The decisions we make (like you finding the beauty in the child with the pigeons) are the ones that give us our sense of freedom. You saw beauty there, someone else would have seen something they can't have, or something to be eschewed, but not you.
You saw a beauty that lay there and you were free to see it, and free to accept it, and free to reject it. You chose to accept it. That's freedom.
Reply:yes, beautiful, thank you. whenever we are conscious and aware in the present moment, when we simply look without labelling, evaluating, judging from past memories, we experience the aliveness and freshness of life. whenever we only look through mind/ thought and label things, all is dry...
Reply:Yes, I do to some extent
You do, because you see the reflection of your own self, your kids/ brother/sister/parents and the place you live in, in every thing around you. I have no other words to describe the kind of love you have within!!!!
Reply:Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and God Beholds each and every day of our lives,
through our family and loved ones.
cherish them, and stop telling them you love them, and that they are the most beautiful things in your life.
Reply:Yes, yes.
Because being is about being-in-the-moment. No more cares, no more worries, no more anxieties over anything else.

Anyone been tattooed by Leah Moule of Spear Studio?
I am 17, 18 in 17 weeks and 3 days, so i am really psyched about getting some tattoo work done. I have been interested in tattoos for years, and wanted some work done since i was about 10. I am getting a full leg "sleeve" with lotus flowers and koi, A large piece of artwork, but im really up for it.
The question is, has anyone been tattooed by Leah, i would love to hear some input before making my final decision.
Im sure iw ill get people telling me not to get such a large piece of work, but i hate small tattoos and i really want something large and impressive, that when i finally get some work, it will be covered during the day.

not yet, but I would LOVE to get tattooed by her, she's on my wish list! Her work is outstanding and beautiful and if you have the chance to be tattooed by her go for it! I've seen her work in magazines and she often wins competitions at conventions. Please do it!!!!!!! And I am so jealous that at the age of 17 you are looking at REAL artists and not getting tramp stamps! I got trashy tattoos in my early twenties, I'm now 33 and have only realised the true value of good artists the last 3 yrs, and at least you will NEVER regret the ink you will have on your body, especially if you get your first by Leah!

How to become a Tibetan Buddhist nun?
About a year ago I was completely lost. my marriage was destroyed and my life was a total mess. at that point, one night before i went to bed, i said out loud, "please who ever is out there, or whatever is out there, what is my life ment to be? please tonight while i am asleep show me in a dream, and i promise i will live my life on that path." well as you can imagine i did have a dream. it was the most beautiful thing i have ever seen. i was standing in a beautiful garden with green hills all around me and i was nude and on my back was a bunch of buddhist symbols surrounded by lotus flowers. i felt more at peace in that dream than i have in my entire life. i felt completely comfortable in by skin and like like my life had such a deeper meaning. when i woke up i knew i had to change, and i have. but i feel like there is still something missing. i feel something pulling me practice dharma full time and feel like nepal is where i should do that. how would i go about becoming a nun? i live in san francisco.
How to become a Tibetan Buddhist nun?
In Buddhism, as in other spiritual traditions, when a person ordains, they ordain under a specific teacher and in a specific tradition.
So if you'd like to ordain as a Tibetan Buddhist nun, I recommend that you first establish a relationship with a teacher of Tibetan Buddhism. With the guidance of that teacher, your practice will flourish and ordination will become a natural step for you.
The link below gives you a listing of Tibetan Buddhist centers in San Francisco and other cities in the Bay Area. I encourage you to visit as many of these centers as you can and see if you feel a particular affinity to one teacher and community. If you do, you're home!
Congratulations on your aspiration to look more deeply into your life!
Reply:I'm not sure you need to jump right into Buddhism to that extent. There's nothing wrong with Buddhism and it's actually something I would promote. It's just that dreams sometimes have a way of going overboard with symbolism and this symbolism can be taken quite literally at times.
Start studying, read, connect with Buddhists in your area. If then you feel the need to completely give yourself, then do it. I think the dream was telling you that you need to change your mind, not necessarily your life.

Venn diagram problem?
out of a heap of pure lotus flowers, a third part, a fifth part, and a sixth were offered respectively to the gods Siva, Vishnu, and then Sun; a quarter of the original heap was presented to Bhavani. The remaining twelve lotuses were given to the venerable preceptor. tell the whole number of lotus flowers.
Venn diagram problem?
To find out the remaining fraction of the original lotuses:
1-1/3-1/5-1/6-1/4=1/20
Thus 1/20 of the original flowers is equal to 12 flowers
12*20=240 which is the total number of flowers

Inner Wrist Tattoo?
Need your opinion....
I'm scheduled to get a new tattoo this coming Monday. Below are some are the choices I'm leaning towards. Basically, I'm aiming for a word and/or symbol of "love," in black/white. Something somewhat small too, that I can cover with a watch or bracelet if needed.
1.) The word "Aloha," with a small heart above it.
2.) The word "Love."
3.) A lotus flower (outlined only) with a small heart above it.
4.) A quote of some sort. Please feel free to throw out some suggestions.
Let me know what you think!
Thx! :-)

What do I think?
I think that if you haven't picked what you're getting less than a week before you're supposed to get it, you shouldn't be getting tattooed.
In my opinion, you should have your design and everything picked out.
Then, you should sit on it for WEEKS
before you even think about scheduling it.
Tattoos probably shouldn't be an impulsive decision

Reply:Dont get it yet, if you dont know exactly what you want you are not going to be happy in the long run, wait awhile, wait until you know it is something you absolutely want and then get it! your tattoo artist will understand if you cancel they would rather tattoo someone who is sure what they want! Trust me, they hate when people come in and look around when they have no idea what they want and just decide on something there on the spot, because they know they know most of the time people end up hating it!
Reply:I am a BIG HUGE fan of lotus flowers. I am going to get one on my lower back on my 21st birthday. So you already know my choice.....get the lotus flower!
Enjoy!
Reply:though i agree with kebert, for your sake i will choose the aloha or the lotus
i love love love both those ideas :)
Reply:I think the lotus flower will be a conversation piece. Keep in mind that this will be where you can't hide it so you want it to be something that's presentable. :)
My cuz had one done on her inner wrist too. She chose the Chinese character for the word "pain" because she was dealing with a lot in her life at the time.
Reply:Whatever you decide, make it something meaningful to YOU.
Reply:I like the idea of the word 'Love' for a tattoo there. That sounds so spiritual, and like something just for you, sounds like something that would be pretty.
Reply:Oh my gosh. I want the same thing! I've recently become obsessed with getting this tattoo. Except, instead of just writing "Love," I want to just get a small heart. This way, I can cover it up, and I think it's more simple and cute and interesting. I drew it on my wrist to see how it would look, and it looks amazing. So that's an idea for you. :]]
I wouldn't get "Aloha" - when I think of that, I picture it on some over-excited tourist that wants to say that they got a tattoo in Hawaii. (lol)
The word "Love" could look cool, if it was in an interesting font.
A lotus flower would be really pretty, and it seems like it would be appropriate. In some cases, the lotus flower represents life, or how people can grow and change into something beautiful. Also, the website I found said that "lotus flower tattoos are popular for people who have gone through a hard time and are now coming out of it." If that fits you, it could be a really cool tattoo. Out of the 4 tattoo ideas that you thought of, this is my favorite - it's so much more meaningful than the others, and I think it'll look cooler, as well. :D

Hope this helps! Good luck! (Sorry about how long my answer was, I didn't mean to be long-winded...)
