Do you remember a poster from the 60s?

that had a drawing of a woman with brilliantly colored flowers flowing out of her head and said Take A Trip To Lotus Land?

I had that poster, and I was looking for a copy of it. I haven't been able to find it anywhere. I thought it was iconic, but I sure am not finding it for sale on e-bay, etc.

Anybody remember that? Anybody seen one?

I think the main background color was maybe indigo.

Reply:I don't remember that one exactly, but you reminded me of a poster I bought in 1969. It was an 1890's Art Nouveau, depicting Sarah Bernhardt and was by Alphonse Mucha. It was so lovely. There was a lot of interest at that time in French Art Nouveau posters. A lot of Mucha and Toulouse-Lautrec posters were reprinted. Thanks for the memory.
Reply:I sure do remember it, but haven't seen one since. I'm going to check out that poster link above that was suggested. I remember the "Keep On Truckin" poster, but that was in the early 70's.
Reply:Here's a link to 60s posters...you should be able to find it there... I wish you luck!!

Which is the best trip have you undertaken till date ?

Hampi was not on our radar, while traveling to Chitradurga Fort, we planned for just a weekend getaway from Bangalore by car. After finishing the trip to Kalline Kote, we instinctively decided why not rush to Hampi? It is just 150 kms away, with small stretch of 18 kms of bad road before Kudilgi on NH 13.

I happened to visit during 1978 along with my parents. In those days, it was typical village with a rustic atmosphere. There was not much interest among the tourist to visit this place, which was known as ruined city, without any guide we wandered cluelessly and we landed in the peak of summer to add to our discomfort. The only distinct memory was that of Inverted Gopuram of Virupakasha temple.

After a gap of nearly 30 years I find that a new civilization has emerged. Perhaps after Hampi being declared a world heritage site in 1987, a mind blowing transformation has taken place at Hampi. It is as if history is being re-written, with guides, autorikshaw round trip, bike guides, and professional tour operators unleashing knowledge to tourists.

There are exists lot of similarities between POMPEII %26amp; HAMPI. The common features are :

1. Road Network 2. Water Management 3. Temple construction 4. Public functions 5. Common Bath 6. Cultural Festivity 7 Art %26amp; Sculpture 8. Well defined markets.9 Brothels Lane.

Trading activity were carried out between various parts of the world in both the periods. We find gems %26amp; jewellery being traded in the bazaars. All household articles such as pottery, grains, vegetables, fruits, beetlenut, flowers etc were being traded. Further brothel lanes were located in the bazaar for the visitors and artisans from outstation.

Our first point of visit was Virupaksha temple which was guided by a foreigner, because we ignored the offer to be guided @ Rs 400/- for a trip, which we thought was exhorbitant. We entered the Virupaksha temple without any enterance fee ( between 6.30 to 8 am it is free entry) The sheer grandeur started unraveling. On the left there is a sanctum which is occupied by tourists for changeover, which is really surprising. The main temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is supposed to have been captivated by the dedication of Pampadevi. Lord Shiva consented to marry Pampa in his avatar as Virupaksha, the presiding deity.

Behind the Virupaksha temple lies a room wherein we can view the inverted image of the main tower through a pin hole. It is application of Periscope principle.

The bazaar in front of the Virupakasha temple is proposed to be shifted to another place to maintain the heritage look. The proposed shopping centre will be the main reporting centre for Hampi excursion. An organized trip with eco friendly mode of transport would be ideal. Further a fixed guide charges would be also be ideal depending on no of spots toured or time spent concept.

After Virupaksha temple visit we walked across a lane adjescent to the right, just on a blinder, towards Hemkunta hill. Here one is astounded by the skills of rock carving work station.. It is like a canvas on which artist exhibits his painting. The granite was the main raw material for most types of monumental construction at the site – which was abundant in and around Hampi for over 200 kms. Traditionally, granite blocks were split by first cutting rows of closely spaced cubical holes into which wooden wedges were pounded. When wetted, the wedges expanded, thereby propagating deep cracks through the stone which split as per dimension required by the artisans.

We found almost four temples, one was literally filled with water on the entrance, and other not so prominent temples, maybe created for low strata people of the times, even the poojary of the temple just gave us some insight, for which he was suitably tipped. The overnight heavy rain had made the rocky surface quite slippery, it was an adventure to climb Hemkunta hillock. The entire Hampi area, is visible in all its panaromic view. There is an acropolis type of two storey structure maybe for the kings to view. There is no description on this monument to my surprise.

Once you start climbing down the steps which is neatly chiseled on the rocks it is adventurers delight, a neat landscaped garden leads to Sasvikalu Ganesha. It is a monolithic exposure of Lord Ganesha which is barricaded to prevent vandalism.

Next we walk across we, come to Dodda Ganesh, which is again vandalized by Sultans, it is now a crude form, luckily the sanctum and veranda in not pillaged, the sculptures are exhuberance of dance and drama of the bygone era. Ugra Narasimha monolithic statue is located nearby along with Badavi Linga installed by a poor women.

We got to know that autorikshaw guides are available @ Rs 250/- to take us around and we decided to hire such a guide. He spent 3 hours taking us around all the important landmark starting from Hemkunt Dodda Kalu Ganesh, Sasive Ganesh, Ugra Narasimha, Badavi Linga, Veerabhadra Temple, Lotus Mahal, Elephant’s Stable, Mahanavami Dibba, Hazaar Rama Temple %26amp; Vittala Temple.

At the Mahanavmi Dibba, a celebration for Nine days was unfolded by the royalty. The king witnessed the cultural programmes such as folk dances, puppet show, fancy dress, fireworks, military parade, procession of horses and elephants, beginning with pooja to lord Durga. Even today the Government of Karnataka is trying to recreate the tradition of Vijayanagar empire by organizing HAMPI UTSAV in November first week every year.

The Sultans wanted to build their own architectural edifice to match Vijaynagar rulers, Lotus Mahal, a summer resting palace was created. It had its own pond to cool the surroundings. Behind the Lotus Mahal, Elephant stables in 11 domed structure is built to house the royal animal. Once again this area is barricaded for renovation. Behind this stable if one is adventurous one can go on a trek to visit a temple winding into a mini forest. There is a small temple by the side of Lotus temple which on the outer wall of Lotus Mahal.

After disposing the auto guide. We visited independently visited the balance places Sri Krishna temple, where one notices the vandalism of Sultans, who literally burnt down the temple along with people. It is rarely visited by tourist, the sculpture work is marvelous.

Then went around back to Hazaar Rama temple, which is the ultimate exposure of the skills of the artisans on rock hewn walls, temples and pillars. It is a culmination of the golden era of Vijaynagar empire. It looks as if the Kings got into a mode of celeberation of life, without warfare. We find scenes from the epics Ramayana, hunting scenes, battleground warfare, courtesans entertaining the kings, hunting scene in olden days and in general description of all day to day events in the life of the royalty.

The underground Shiva temple is a marvel. It is fed by water channels, which have entered the temple premises due to lack of conservation effort. Will ASI do some quick thinking otherwise it meet the fate of Musical pillar at Vittala temple.

Museum at Kamalapura houses some of the restored sculptures and various other pieces of artwork is stored. Many foreign travelers scourge HAMPI in their quest for the hidden treasures of HAMPI by camping months together. Someday, someone is bound to hit the jackpot. Till then Hampi literally rocks.

Solve this?

There is a fixed number of lotuses in a pond. Few number of birds came to sit on the flower. When each bird sat on each flower one bird didn't get a flower to sit. When a pair of birds sat on each flower, one flower was vacant. Now say,how many flowers and birds where there?

Solve this?
Four Birds and Three Flowers
Reply:There are 4 birds and 3 flowers.

Aptitude question??pls help very urgent?

i have 100$.and I ahve to buy 100 flowers.if the cost of the flowers r as below and i have to buy in all 100 flowers, then what r the quantities of each of them.

rose=5$ each

jasminie=1$ each

20 lotus for 1$

Aptitude question??pls help very urgent?
19 roses

80 lotus

1 jasmine

hahaha

19 roses = 95 $

80 lotus = 4 $

1 jasmine = 1 $

95 + 4 + 1 = 100 $

19 roses + 80 lotus + 1 jasmine = 100 flowers
Reply:Let the number of roses be x

Let the number of jasmines be y

Let a group of 20 lotuses be m

x+y+20m=100

5x+y+m=100

4x-19m=0

4x=19m

x=19m/4

Multiply the first equation by 5

5x+5y+100m=500

5x+y+m=100

4y+99m=400

y=(400-99m)/4

(x,y,m) is (19m/4,(400-99m)/4,m)

In 19m/4,

You must have a multiple of 4 for m in order to have a whole number on 19m/4

So, Let us try m=4 and it works!!

Solution:

19roses

1jasmine

80lotuses
Reply:8 rose...

30 jasmine...

600 lotus....

What should I paint to symbolize the birth of my daughter?

I tried posting this yesterday, but got no responses. I figured I'd give it another go. I personally think symbology is really interesting; I just want some feedback.

When my son was born, I painted birth announcements bearing the symbol of Kokopelli, a symbol of fertility, birth and lightheartedness. I'm going to give birth to a baby girl in April and would like to paint birth announcements again. I'm having trouble with what symbol I'd like to be the focal point. I've been thinking a flower of some sort, to be more feminine. I've looked online for ideas, but haven't come up with much. I've thought of a lotus, but I'm getting mixed messages about the meanings for the different colors. I don't know that any of them will translate very well to "birth". I'm open to any suggestions, even nontradional ones. Thank you!

What should I paint to symbolize the birth of my daughter?
How about a painting of one of the goddesses of fertility?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fertility_g...

I also really like the lotus idea.
Reply:How about a calla lily?
Reply:I know that the totem animal for birth is a hippopotamus. Coincidentally, you could go with more pretty comical hippos like from the Fantasia movie, or realistic ones, or even have a custom tribal hippo head done or something like that). The totem link is here:

http://www.crystal-cure.com/protection-h...

Perhaps you could do a tree of life with a butterfly on/near it for your daughter (a butterfly is a well-known symbol of birth and change). The butterfly could be in different colors (color meanings can be found by doing a simple google or yahoo search). The actual tree could be your own birth tree (try http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Cafe/8021/... to find out your birth tree).

A more traditional birth symbol (according to Sheila Kitzinger) which has been used in different cultures around the world for centuries in art and textiles etc can be found at: http://www.everyday-miracles.com/logo.ht... . It's quite beautiful, maybe you could have the butterfly concept somehow incorporated into it.

A cherry blossom sounds good too. I am getting one tattooed to symbolize my pregnancy and birth of my son.

How would you interpret this passage?

38. In the Gold Room: a Harmony

(poem by Oscar Wilde)

HER ivory hands on the ivory keys

Strayed in a fitful fantasy,

Like the silver gleam when the poplar trees

Rustle their pale leaves listlessly,

Or the drifting foam of a restless sea 5

When the waves show their teeth in the flying breeze.

Her gold hair fell on the wall of gold

Like the delicate gossamer tangles spun

On the burnished disk of the marigold,

Or the sun-flower turning to meet the sun 10

When the gloom of the jealous night is done,

And the spear of the lily is aureoled.

And her sweet red lips on these lips of mine

Burned like the ruby fire set

In the swinging lamp of a crimson shrine, 15

Or the bleeding wounds of the pomegranate,

Or the heart of the lotus drenched and wet

With the spilt-out blood of the rose-red wine.

How would you interpret this passage?
I love Oscar Wilde, he is not just some wierd *** author, first of all. He loves this woman so much he compares her to god's other creations and he cant just choose one. He loves watching her play the piano, he thinks her hand are very graceful, he loves the waves and color of her hair and the color of her lips and of course kissing them. Oh, to be loved by such a man, she must have been very beautiful.
Reply:She is good at playing the piano and is a beautiful blonde with pretty red lips..that it!!
Reply:chick plays piano, weird-a$$ author making an analogy of that to w/e he said in first section....

her hair is long.....like some flowers and/ or vines....again with the analogies.....

lips analogy..........kissing.....

pretty much it

well obviously this guy likes nature, considering all the fruity analogies with nature.
Reply:It uses a lot of visual references to make comparisons.

Mr. Wilde is describing vividly beautiful sights, and comparing them with a lady he loves. The number of colors and images in the poem, are meant to project the images to the reader's mind.

The poem seems to suggest, that the woman it mentions, is as great to the author as those pleasant images.

I think Oscar is just explaining his love for a woman through the use of beautiful imagery.
Reply:The first stanza describes her piano playing as the wild rustling of nature,

The second describes her hair as the sharpest brightest gold

and the third describes kissing her, warm, wet, and red

Bad baby name?

My 21 yr old sister is having a baby. She's really into being original and she's been coming up with some not so great names but in her head they are. The most recent one, if it's a boy, is Darth Vadar. She's letting her boyfriend have total control over the name because it's his first born child (something else I don't agree with but I'm biting my tongue on that one). I don't want to offend her or hurt her feelings but I want to somehow change her mind. It's like she doesn't really think about the fact that this isn't a pet you're naming (her pets all have strange names) but it's a child who is going to have to live with this name for the rest of their life. Any suggestions on how to let her know this and maybe suggestions on unique names that won't end up scarring the child for life? For a girl she has the name Lotus Elise after her boyfriend's favorite car but at least it's also a flower and her my sister's middle name.

Bad baby name?
Oh my gosh! What in the world is wrong with your sister? You say that she is 21, but she is acting 12. Yes, her child is going to grow up to resent her and giving him a stupid name like that is going to seriously limit his potential as an adult because EVERYTHING really is in a name. Have you ever heard of ANYONE successful who has a retarded name like that?

I think you should encourage your sister to read the replies you get on this (maybe make a new question if you aren't comfortable with her seeing the wording on this one). She should be ashamed of herself. This is not about HER and showcasing her creativity or whatever. It's about her child and naming your child is no time to be funny or off the wall. Like you said already, it's a human, not a pet. It's okay to name your pet something stupid, but a child is different. How could anyone take him seriously with a name like that? Ask her to imagine this child applying for a power-job or running for president or something. No one will even believe it's his real name. Ask her to imagine him trying to date. "Darth Vader loves Jenny Marie"....sounds ridiculous. She is going to make her child the butt of all jokes and the center of all kinds of negative attention.

Tell her to stop setting her child up for failure and give him a decent name. It should be his decision to change it later if he wants to be Darth Vader, Bob the Builder, Santa Clause, or Figaro. I'm 30 years old and I would still rip a guy to shreds if he had some stupid name like that. Imagine what he would take on the playground.

*throws up hands in disgust*

If she wants to be creative, that's fine. Unique? Sure, go ahead, but don't skate over into stupidsville just because you don't want your child to be Billy or Bobby or whatever. There are lots of semi-obscure names that are not going to get his butt kicked and ridiculed for the rest of his life. Tell her that if she simply HAS to give him some name that is off the wall, the least she could do is give him an ethnic family name that he could at least explain to people and gain a little respect that way. "Yes, my name is ______, but my mother named me that because our family blah blah blah and that person was highly respected in our line..." something like that.

Her child's name is going to shape who he is. If she wants to jack around with his name, let her ponder this for a while:

http://docapp065p.doc.state.ok.us/servle...
Reply:Dude, it's not your child, so you don't have any say in it. I understand your concern, given that you'll be sharing a quarter of your DNA with this kid, but sometimes you have to just stand back and enjoy the trainwreck.

That said, you'd be surprised what little detriment you can do to a kid by naming him something strange. Kids can make fun of just about anything. In all honesty, having an asinine name will probably work to his advantage later in life. Instant ice-breaker.
Reply:Explain to her, nicely, that naming her child after a fictional evil villain is a surefire way to have him get teased and picked on mercilessly in school, and a great way to have him hate her for life. If she cares about her son, she'll give him a name that actually sounds like a real name so he doesn't have to put up with the merciless bullying of his classmates.
Reply:Besides the fact that the child will resent the name, we just don't name our children after evil things or people. Seen any Hitler's or Saddam's born lately? Darth is a character, I'll grant that, but he's an evil character. If it is the Star Wars connection she likes, will she consider Annakin? That's not a common name either.
Reply:Darth Vadar? Oh myy.. Well You need to tell your sister to take some control over the situation. And let her know that the child will be teased all through school and and probably for the rest of his life. That would kill his self esteem, and probably make him resent her. Just keep telling her this until she gets the point. If it doesn't work, pray (:
Reply:How sad. She is putting a lifetime handicap on her child. He or she will be teased unmercifully in school and will have a hard time with finding jobs, etc. Your sister and her BF sound terribly immature. They are not ready to have children.

Stop biting your tongue and speak up. Someone has to protect this child.
Reply:Normally I would advise you to keep your opinion quiet... but in this case.... DARTH VADER?? Come on... Tell her the child will resent her for making a joke out of him. Also tell your sister that she has to grow up and think about the child's future. One day the child will be an adult and will not only have to change his name but will disown his mother.
Reply:lets hope she has a girl!!!!!!! in all seriousness just try talking to her and ask her if she would have liked to be called that. remind of the kids she or othersw picked on for having silly names at school, that might do the trick
Reply:sounds strange!! lol

what about; malakai, emoura, maliya, tequia, mia-meela

bit outrageous but that sounds a little like her!!

hope this helped xx
Reply:You can always call him V.D. lol.. oh man it sucks, have someone close to your sister's boyfriend talk him out of it.
Reply:My names darth maul dont make fun of my masters name
Reply:Damn! That is a terrible name for her (or anyone) to give a child. I'm surprised nobody called Child Protective Services on her yet. Giving your kid a messed up name should be considered child abuse.

Darth Vader should not be a child's name at all. A really evil dog or cat, maybe, but not a human. The poor kid will be teased and tortured all his life. Darth is too evil of a name to saddle a child with.

Lotus Elise isn't too much better. I love Elise, but Lotus sounds too pretentious. It sounds like something you'd name a stripper or porn star.

Neither name would look good for when the child grows up and applies for a job. Employers often overlook the applications and resumes of people who have weird or unusual names as opposed to normal names like Catherine and William.

If she's gonna use Lotus, at least she could make the first name Elise and the middle name Lotus. Then she'd have a normal first name and nobody would even have to know her middle name. That takes care of some of the teasing she would go through.

There are alot nicer unique names she and her boyfriend could call their baby. Darth Vader and Lotus Elise are just atrocious! If she wants a flowery name for her daughter, she could try Cassia, Lilia, Aiyana, Laurel, Daphne, Sakura, Acacia, Calla, Hana, Violet, Zara or some other normal name. For the sake of the baby, try to talk her out of those awful names she's coming up with.
Reply:A co-worker of mine had a Star Wars themed wedding complete with the theme song and wedding rings inscribed with "May the Force Be With Us". Very weird wedding!!!

So, naturally when her baby was born they named her Leia.

Your sister and her boyfriend aren't serious about Darth Vader, right? That would be so sad for that kid! Lotus Elise is goofy too! She can't name her kid after a car!

So, here's what you should do--go to your local library and check out a few baby name books. Subtly loan the books to them. If they're still looking for unique names, they can find some in those books too. There are better, unique names other than Darth Vader and Lotus Elise!!! Save those poor children from a lifetime of humiliation!

1/2 oz (15gm) dried rose petals

2 drops of your own menstrual blood

Blend and use for private meditation during the onset of your

menstruation.

Here are Potions used through the centuries. Why do Christians think they're works of their Satan?
Because people are very close minded. They want to push their beliefs on you and drown you with the rhetoric, however, they will close their eyes and hate everything that is different from what the believe.
Reply:Because in christianity, a person is told that things like potions are of the devil or satan while killing people in the name of thier god is perfectly Okay. That's why I am no longer one of them.
Reply:First of all this Q is asked incorrectly. Christians "their satan?"

Christians believe in the healing Power of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit only.

Only these two can heal, and no potion on earth is going to heal you spiritually, mentally and physically like God can.
Reply:Well, maybe most of those potions are designed for the "god" of the particular association. And you don't need potions and spells to believe in God. Somebody said to me there are two basic religions. 1) What God can do for people and 2) What people can do for God(s) (Think about that for a moment...)
Reply:Because most potions (if you have read Harry Potter) can be used for evil, to ensnare the soul and the mind
Reply:You might want to check your working next time time because lucifer, or satan, is not ours, he belongs to the worshippers of satan and the potions belong to to worshippers of satan. Those potions are the works of satan and are associated with greek gods who are not gods but created by humans.
Reply:I was raised Christian (but can't speak for all of them) but I was taught everything not Christian was evil. I wouldn't have bothered to actually see for myself for fear God (in his (tough)-loving kindness would punish me)

;-)
Reply:Let me Start by saying that as a celtic wicca......... i do not beleive in satan.... i am a tree hugger lol

But people fear the unknown .
Reply:Because the early Christians believed that casting spells and making potions were pagan ritual, which at the time they were trying to stop pagan worshiping and convert everyone to become Christians
Reply:Here is what the problem is. Any person that could heal, was considered a witch. When the priest would say there was no cure, and some little old lady would heal the person, both the healer and the healed would be called devil worshipers.

The christian church couldn't have people undermine the authority that the church had. The alternative would be that people would start following another religion. This is something that was held over from the roman times, when the Christians were burned as torches in the house of Nero. They would find the heretics saying only one god existed, and put them in jail. Then when Nero had a party, he would call for the prisoners to be put in cages with straw and oil on the straw. Over the course of the night they would light the straw for light, and entertainment. (some say dead, some say alive Christians were burned)

So when the Christian sects came into power, the cycle didn't stop. It is why suspected witches would be burned at the stake...
Reply:Basically because the bible says so, and Christians believe that the bible is the word of God.

And blah, blah, blah ....

Reply:Beautiful!!! I love the artwork that has been inspired by Chinese and Japanese art. I think that would be an awesome tattoo!
Reply:maybe a tree w/ really long roots? like those baboa trees or watever?

idk
Reply:man if you have to ask a bunch of people you dont even know, you might want to wait until you're a little older. keep in mind that its burned into your skin for the rest of your life.
Reply:It's rare that anyone would have a full sleeve done in one sitting.

Take your time in deciding - start with what you have and you can always incorporate more into the design later....dragon would be cool.

I would also suggest REALLY thinking hard about this...Sleeves are cool - don't get me wrong - but if you have ANY ideas of being in corporate America a sleeve will severly limit you.

Stop the design ABOVE the wrist so shirt sleeves will cover it.

Tattoos are very popular and self expressing - but they also sterotype you - whether you like it or not.
Reply:that kinda scares me
Reply:Personally I think tattoo sleeves are repulsive.

Please think about this carefully!
Reply:i think you should do a cherry blossom tree, its a traditional Japanese tree or i think if you got like one of those Japanese geisha girls would be pretty cool..

Poem. Do you like it?

Such a flower, Pure and Beloved as a Lotus desired in every eye,

an angel of orchid decent, and a daisy of Babylon descent

Unique and desired as every nebula nursery in the sky,

Ariej be that name of her passion released in scent.

A boy of ignorance throwing Rocks of himself into destruction awry.

Casimir she sees. She lusts for he, and the Lady grows discontent

with her new peddles and Casimir takes her as his in July,

but only deep she falls, his pocket holds three things as her uprooting present:

---of sea-rain heart pounding pain and unescapable torment.

Poem. Do you like it?
I really liked it.
Reply:deep and equal in thought
Reply:That's a beautiful poem--it is really good, and deep. You should write more!

Why those things are given?

Why hindu gods were given weapons in their hands?

Why lord vishnu is holding lotus in his hands not a flower like rose?

Why those things are given?
Hindu Time Prophecies by Dr. H.M. Munjie

--------------------------------------...

The most ancient Hindu prophecies pinpoint the year 1844 AD as the time when the

Promised One of Hinduism is due to appear.

The Hindu Holy Book "Manu Smriti" (the Memorandum of Manu) is traditionally attributed to the mythical first Manu, Svayambhuva. This book describes the life span of the Universe, specifies calculations of the major and minor Religious Cycles comprising various aeons, ages, epics and their linking periods. Mankind's appearance is placed at the beginning of a cycle of 12000 years containing within itself 4 minor and uneven periodic cycles. The termination of this 12000 year cycle is described as the beginning of a new "Krit Yug" or a new "Cycle of Truth in Deeds".

According to the calculations given in "Manu Smriti", chapter 1, verses 68 to 72... this 12,000 year cycle was to end and the new "Cycle of Truth in Deeds" was to begin in the year 1844 AD.

The following chart lists the calculation of the full-period duration of the 12000 year cycle containing the 4 minor and uneven periodic cycles is as follows:

Sat Yug 100 + 1000 + 100 = 1200

Treta Yug 200 + 2000 + 200 = 2400

Dwapar Yug 300 + 3000 + 300 = 3600

Kali Yug 400 + 4000 + 400 = 4800

Total Years = 12,000

Hindus use both a lunar and a solar calendar. The calendar used 5000 years ago was a lunar calendar. In approximately the year 56 BC, a noble king named Vikramaditya appeared who inaugurated the use of a solar calendar.

From Vishnu Puran, Part IV, Chapter 24, Versus 109 and 113, we learn that

"on the day Bhagwan Krishna ascended to His Holy Abode, at the age of 126 lunar years. In Vishnu Puran it is also stated that so long as Bhagwan Shri Krishna was touching this earth with His Lotus Feet, Kali Yug could not put it's foot on the earth."

Most Hindus today believe that Kali Yug is an evil age. The word "Kali" has a dual meaning... on one hand Kali depicts a beautiful bud and a fragrant rose. On the other hand in later stages of it's life cycle it depicts a flower which has died, decayed and dried up. The same is true of the life cycles of religion. In the beginning, religion is like a beautiful bud and a fragrant rose because whenever one of God's Prophets or Manifestations appear on Earth... He most renews Religion, and a new era of Righteousness in the world of Humanity is born. Similarly, like the beautiful rose which eventually dies, decays and dries up... religion's regenerating force and life giving vitality is obscured.

Hence, there are clear-cut prophecies in the Hindu Scriptures about the bad events to come and evil occurrence to happen in the end-times of Kali Yug. This is the example provided to us by Shri Krishna's religion. Krishna originally did establish a beautifully budding civilization and a spiritualized nobility which flourished like the opening of a "Kali" petal... of a fragrant rose. Krishna claims:

"I am the flowery Spring Season" ("Aham Rutuna Kusumakarah")---Gita X.

So Kali originally was a budding age of goodness, which gradually and progressively declined until it finally died 5065 lunar years later... in 1844 A.D.

From these 5065 lunar years we deduct the 126 years of Shri Krishna's life on earth. This leaves us with 4939 lunar years of 355 days each (4939 x 355 = 1753345 days.) If we convert these 4939 lunar years into solar years of 365.25 days each we get 4800.3969 solar years. (4939 x 355 = 1753345 days divided by 365.25 days in a solar year= we get 4800.3969 solar years.

The year 4800.3969 of the Hindu calendar is the year 1844 A.D. of the Christian calendar. This prophecy says that Kali Yug will end in the year 1844 A.D. It also promises that by the end of Kali Yug age (or 1844 A.D.) there will appear a Manifestation of God Who will inaugurate a new "krityug" or a new "age of deeds".

Two hours and eleven minutes after sunset on May 23rd, 1844 A.D. this great and long-standing prophecy was fulfilled when the Bab announced to his first disciple that he was the long awaited Promised One.

isn't a lotus a flower?

Need help w/ a video game?

i need help w/ the Kingdom Hearts video game (the first one). i need help finding Alice in Wonderland. And in the Lotus Forest, is there any flowers that will make any other "trees" grow??

Need help w/ a video game?
Upon arriving in Wonderland, you will see the White Rabbit rush past. Exit

the Rabbit Hole to enter the Bizarre Room, then examine the wooden door to

enter the Bizarre Room.

You will see the White Rabbit enter through another door. Examine the door

to initiate a cutscene, and then push the bed on the left side of the room

into the wall. This grants you access to the Queen's Castle.

Drink the potion on the table, then continue into the Queen's Castle. When

the cutscene has finished, you need to bring proof of Alice's innocence.

You must find at least one piece of evidence, everything else is optional.

Start by clearing Lotus Forst of all the Heartless. This will make all the

work so much easier.

= Clue #1: Antenna

Head down the path until you find three large mushrooms that are

grouped together. Jump atop the middle mushroom, and then to the

green leaf support on the right. Examine the box and you'll find

the Antenna.

Jump to the leaf support in the distance, and then to the nearby treasure

chest. Open the chest to obtain a Thunder-G. Backtrack to the three large

mushrooms, and then jump on top of the leaf support to the left. Here you

will find Dalmations 16, 17, %26amp; 18.

Jump on top of the tree branch, then down below. There is an entrance that

leads to the Bizarre Room on the other side of the tree. Leap

= Clue #2: Stench

Enter the Bizarre Room via the side of the tree to reach another box

that contains the Stench.

Head back to Lotus Forest. Now you've probably noticed several flowers in

the area. Locate the yellow flower near the entrance to the Queen's Castle,

and then give it a Potion to make Sora grow. Stemp on the stump, and then

examine the acorn on top of the branch. If you cannot see the branch, you

will need to strike the tree with your keyblade.

Eat the acorn to return to normal size, and then search for the red flower

near the entrance to the Queen's Castle. Enter the small area on the right.

= Clue #3: Footprints

Lying in the corner is a box holding the Footprints.

Jump on top of the nearby mushroom, and proceed along the leaf supports to

an alternate entrance of the Bizarre Room. This isn't the one found on the

side of the tree.

= Clue #4: Claw Marks

You will land on a faucet above an urn engraved in the floor. Now

jump to the nearby cupboard to find a box holding the Claw Marks.

Return to the Queen's Castle and speak to the Two of Hearts. You'll now be

asked to select one of five boxes. Four of the boxes hold Sora's evidence,

while another holds the Queen of Heart's evidence.

*BOSS BATTLE*

After the battle, return to Lotus Forst and you will find the Cheshire Cat

once again. After the cutscene, give the yellow flower a potion to make

Sora grow. Push the rock into the pond, and then use the leaf supports to

find an alternate route to the Queen's Castle. Here you will find a chest.

Head back to Lotus Forest.

Remember the route you took to access the alternate entrance to the Bizarre

Room? We need to go back there, as now the gravity has shifted. Once inside

the Bizarre Room, turn the faucet, and then proceed through the vase.

You should now be back at the Queen's Castle. Here you will find a treasure

chest containing Dalmations 58, 59, %26amp; 60. Head back to Lotus Forest, then

back to the Bizarre Room. You should still be on the side wall. Head over

to the fireplace, as this will bring you to the wall on the other side of

the Bizarre Room.

Deafeat the Heartless and light the two torches, then open the nearby chest

to obtain a Defense Up. Examine the picture that just appeared to return to

Lotus Forest. Here you will find several flowers and a White Trinity.

Use the flowers to restock on items, health, and mana, then return into the

Bizarre Room. Head to the teddy bear in the corner and strike it with your

keyblade. Head back to the Bizarre Room so you are right-side up. Drink the

Potion to grow large, then locate the teddy bear and select 'Move'.

Next, move the clock out of the way to access a hidden passage into the Tea

Party Garden. Return to normal size and proceed through the door where the

clock used to be to enter the Tea Party Garden.

Open the Treasure Chest to obtain an Aeroga-G, jump down below, examine the

note beside the picture of Mad Hatter twice, then sit down in various seats

to receive some MP Balls, HP Balls, Munny, and Items.

Head into the house to return to the Bizarre Room, only this time you'll be

on the roof. Here you will need to defeat all the Heartless, and then light

the torches to bring out the Trickmaster.

Release the latch on the other side of the room. This opens up a passage to

the Queen's Castle. Continue to the Queen's Castle, then open up the nearby

treasure chest containing Dalmations 13, 14, %26amp; 15. Head back to the Bizarre

Room via the entrance next to the Save Point at the Queen's Castle. Jump up

on the table and get ready to fight the Trickmaster.

*BOSS BATTLE*

Krishna devotees can you recognize these words??Who said this to whom and what is the significance??

"Place your lotus foot on my head

A sublime flower destroying the poison of love

Let your foot quell the harsh sun

Burning its fiery form in me to torment Love"

Krishna devotees can you recognize these words??Who said this to whom and what is the significance??
Jayadeva is someone whom i can never forget, the souls are meant for our inspiration, they come down by Lords grace only for uplifting us.

here the original in Sanskrit, As it was written by Great Jayadeva.

" SmaragaraLa khaNDanam mama shirasi maNDdanam

..dEhi pada pallava mudAram"

significance : These words were penned by Lord Krishna himself when Jayadeva hesitated and went to oil his head. Hari came as Jayadeva with oiled head and took the palm leaf form Padmavati and completed the words and left. When Jayadeva got to know about this after seeing the words completed just as he had thought it, He had no words to praise Padmavati's Fortune, of seeing Hari.

What comes to your mind when I say.....?

flowers? Which flower do you like the most?

I like lotus the most!

What comes to your mind when I say.....?
Bingo man! I also like lotus. When I think about this flower, there is a deep philosophy behind it. It takes its roots in mud, muddy and marshy water, etc. It makes its way upwards to the open light no matter what and there you see it! At last it blooms with such divine beauty. At night the flower closes and sinks underwater, at dawn it rises and opens again. Untouched by the impurity, lotus symbolizes the purity of heart and mind. The lotus flower represents long life, health, honor and good luck. It is also characterized as the symbol of spiritual unfoldment.

The lotus flower symbolizes divinity, fertility, wealth, knowledge and enlightenment. It is associated with the Goddess of wealth, Maha Lakshmi, who brings prosperity, purity and generosity. She sits on a fully blossomed lotus flower, symbolizing purity, beauty and everything that is good.
Reply:Rose, of course.
Reply:Hey Anil Ji I also like the Lotus the most. They make me think of Lord Krishna's lotus feet and His lotus eyes and His eyes which are tinged with the red of the pink lotus. The whole spiritual world is situated on a gigantic lotus flower. They are the most spiritual flower. I give to you a sweet lotus, which was offered first to Lord Krishna.

Reply:daffodils
Reply:A symbol of different feelings. I like roses the most !!
Reply:Daisies. I love them! I even named my cat Daisy :-) They remind me of the sun.
Reply:Moon Flower.

It blooms only in the moonlight.
Reply:If you ask me what i like most - I like God the most. You know - there is a very beautiful thing. God calles the spiritual people to be fragrant spiritual flowers. God is not material so material flowers don't have any meaning for Him. We spiritual flowers are the beauty of the Garden of Allah. What Garden would Bhagwan - the Master of the Garden - be the master of? Certainly not of physical flowers. My one flower is God and it could be because God in the first place considers me to be a flower in His garden....;)

Kingdom Hearts?

In Wonderland, Where is the yellow flower in Lotus Forest that I am supposed to give a potion to, and how do I give a potion to a flower?

Kingdom Hearts?
I believe the yellow flower you're looking for is the one near the entrance from Queen's Castle to Lotus Forest. You should just walk up to it and when you are close enough that you get a lock on symbol on it, go to "Items" and then choose "potion". One of the options will be to give it to the flower.

Doing this will make you bigger. when you want to get smaller again, eat the acorn.

Also, you should give potions/ethers to all the other yellow/red flowers, because they will give you items
Reply:There are only a few yellows, you'll have to look around. When you find it, walk up to it and press "X". Then it will give you the option to give it a potion.
Reply:Go into the Lotus Forest, walk, turn the left and you will see a flower directly in front of you. Give the potion to that flower.

What is this tree called?

I live in Houston, TX and there is a tree that I see sometimes in peoples' yards that I really like but I don't know what it is. I only notice it when it's flowering because the flowers look like pinkish purplish whitish lotuses. I don't know what the leaves look like or anything but the tree is not very tall and the trunk is not very wide. I wish I could figure out what it is because it's been bothering me.

What is this tree called?
Sounds like a Magnolia to me - here are some links to magnolia pictures - any of these look familiar? the flowers will be about 3+ times the size of a cherry blossom and will mostly be upright (unlike cherry blossoms that are every which direction).

Reply:Take a look at thw two types of magnolia tree in an encyclopedia or online and see if that is what it is. It sound much like one to me and I am quite familiar with them. A friend of my folks had one in Chicago, which grew to be about 20 feet high and was about 15 fee across in width at hte bottom. I have also seen them as younger trees too and they can be kept small if carefully trimmed
Reply:This is Gliricidia tree of Fabaceae family ( Leguminosae )

Reply:Could it be a cherry blossom tree? Now that I've looked at the photos, it's either cherry blossom or magnolia. I'm still leaning toward cherry blossom. They were brought to the US by a famous woman whose name escapes me right now. She brought them back from the Orient and introduced them to Washington DC, where they are plentiful. Such beautiful trees. Happy planting!!

I'm looking for this specific jacket, but I can't find it anywhere! Can someone help me? =]?

I've had this jacket cut out of a magazine for two years now...lol

Anyways I'm pretty sure it's from Journey's. But I'm not 100% positive.

It's kind of beige, and it has a lotus on the left side by the pocket in the front, with a little lotus on the right sleeve. The lotuses are only an outline. And the jacket doesn't zip up.

The back is a pretty bird with other lotuses and flowers that are darker red. I think the bird is kind of purple with gold wings.

Sounds like an awesome jacket, right? I'm not sure if Journey's (or whoever the seller is) is selling it anymore, but I do have the order number. It's 46912, and it's $30. Only problem is, the site doesn't have it anymore. =[

If anyone can find it ANYWHERE, even Ebay will do, I would REALLY appreciate it! I fell in love with this jacket but never got to buying it when I should have. =( ANY tips to finding it will do, too. =)

Anyways, THANK YOU!!

so you are trying to find a jacket from two years ago, there is no way that is going to happen, just try and find something similar, stuff only stays in stores for a few weeks

Try this question only if you are really good in maths and you dont need complex formulas for this?

You are to measure the length of a lotus plant from the bottom of the lake till the top of the flower. You are given a scale but you are not allowed to immerse it in water or uproot the plant or use any sort of other equipment.(This question has a logical answer.)

Try this question only if you are really good in maths and you dont need complex formulas for this?
You need to use Pythagorean theorem.

Measure the lenght of the lotus plant which is above the water.(X)

Bend the plant to any one side until it is just submerged under the surface of water.

Measure the Dist. between the initial and final positions of the plant(Y)(i.e. the initial position and final position where it is submerged)

Let the actual lenght be L.

Then (L x L) = (Y x Y) + (L - X)(L - X)
Reply:this problem is very obvious and simple. i can't believe only 2 person can answer it. Report It

Reply:Radar is the way to test depth of oceans. Estate agents uee the same principle to measure rooms.

Bounce a signal off the bottom and the time it takes to be received back again tells you (twice) the depth.
Reply:I am not that great in math, but I would use the scale and measure around the lake at the lowest level and the highest level and subtract. Like 3,300 lowest - 3,000 highest =3,000. Is that correct?
Reply:Lotus plants can't grow but so tall, so it can't be that deep of a lake. So get in yourself and stand next to it. Get out, measure how far up you got wet, and voila!
Reply:Use anotehr scale which you are allowed to immerse in water, or use something else, which you immerse in water ant then measure the depth of the lake, and add on the additional height of the flower above the lake and there you have your answer.

I am also sure if you wanted to get technical you could drop a stone or something into the water and if it were possible to time how long it took to reach the bottom using some clever mechanics you could work out the depth of the water and continue as previous.
Reply:Pull the plug out and drain the lake (try to save the fish %26amp; put them back later), measure the lotus plant.
Reply:Yes, there is a way to do it mathematicaly (though practically , you'd have problems):

Let y = the unknown length of the plant below water

let x = the measured distance of the the plant (held taut) above the water. You wish to determine x+y, so you must determine y. Holding the plant taut you bend the plant until the top of the plant just breaks the plane of the water at point p. The scale is used to measure the horizontal distance d from where the plant broke the water, while vertical, to point p. Now, from the pythagorean theorem you have y^2 + d^2 = (x+y)^2 Since you know x and d, you can solve for y and determine x+y.
Reply:know how deep the water in the lake and then measure how tall the flower is abouve the water, add it up
Reply:It's easy, a lotus is generally circular, so measure it's mean diameter, you didn't say that I've to measure the height, just the length, so where is the question of the scale getting wet?
Reply:i think lotus plant cant be measured without immersing the scale in water

Karma tattoo?

I wanna get the word karma in arabic(currently learning the language), with flames(also has meaning to me) and flowers possibly lilies because they are beautiful and my favorite flower but lotus's make more sense(karma and buddism). All this on my right leg from knee to ankle. fully colored how much would this cost and how do i go about getting the right design. any suggestions would be great.

positive answers only. I know this wont look great when im 80, no lectures please

Karma tattoo?
Write down the basics of what you want on a notepad and take your idea to your tattoo artist... they will work with you on the design and getting it to flow properly on the selected area of skin....

your tattoo idea sounds like there could be huge possibilities on creativity and coloring....

there is no guessing on a price, only you and your artist can come up with that number...

Best of luck on it!! ...and when you're 80 you'll still be proud of that tattoo.

Can anyone help identify provenance of sm. pottery stylised monkey/chimp?

I am trying to find out what I can about a pottery monkey, in our family for over 50 years. It has a highly glazed yellowy-green base colour, with symbols in a darker, more sage green painted at various places on its body. It looks, to my untutored eye, far east Asian, e.g. Chinese, Japanese. The figure is sitting or squatting, arms crossed at wrist, in front. some symbols: rising/setting sun with rays; lotus type flower; small spiral on back of head. On its base is stamped in the pottery 2 numbers: one of 4 digits, difficult to discern, the other is the number 2. Four digit number is poss 1027. Monkey's eyes are closed, head at right-angles to body. A rather 'smug', sort of smiling expression! Have searched web without success, however if anyone can recommend an antiques site where I might be able to find identification, I would be grateful. It's almost certainly C20, early to mid. Thank you for your help.

Can anyone help identify provenance of sm. pottery stylised monkey/chimp?
Don't think this will be much help but have seen a glazed green monkey figure in Retro Home and Jewelry (shop in Pembridge Cres, Notting Hill) - it looked 30s but they actually specialise in 40s and 50s. Kept looking at it, thinking what is it that's so attractive about the figure? - then decided it was the smug smile on its face that made it particularly appealing. The figure has now gone from the window but maybe the experts there might have an idea?
Reply:First thing I'd suggest is taking it to an appropriate museum to see if they could help you. Looking on the net I found the following site where it looks like you could ask the same question to people who know their stuff. Other antiquey kind of sites seem to be more about evaluations
