Here you go, show all work:
The square root of half the number of bees in a swarm have flown out to a blueberry bush. In adition, one female bee is flying around a male bee that got stuck in a lotus flower the evening before. Eight-ninths of the whole swarm remain in the hive. How many bees are involved in activities outside the hive in all?
Fun Math Question!!!!!!!!!!!!!Easy Best!!!!!!!!!!?
let the total no of bees=x
sqrt (1/2x) + 2 + 8/9x = x
sqrt (1/2x) = 1/9x - 2
9 sqrt (1/2x) = x - 18
square both sides
81/2 x = x^2 - 36x + 324
81 x = 2x^2 - 72x + 648
2x^2 - 153x + 648 = 0
(2x - 9)(x -72)=0
x=9/2 (reject coz no. of bees cant be fraction)
or x=72
no.of bees involved in activities outside the hive
=sqrt (1/2x) + 2
=sqrt 36 + 2
= 8
