I have a Koi Fish tattoo on my shoulder / upper arm.
I want to make a half sleeve, but i want to make it more masculin rather than having a Lotus flower.
Any idea what to add??
My Koi fish tatt is orange and has a blue Japanese wave with pink Cherry blossom.
Any idea what to add on my Koi fish tattoo?
Japanese water and cherry blossoms. Two things you simply must have with a large koi piece.
Reply:Cherry blossom, japanese water. go with the lotus flower they do look good even on a bloke. I am a bloke and have cherry blossoms on my half japanese sleeve.

I am looking for a product in the shape of plant or animal with many different usable features?
ask in home and garden dude
Reply:I know one such plant....coconut.
1. u can drink coconut water which is a refreshing drink..u can eat the coconut raw or make "chutney" (a dish made in south India).
2. u can use the long leaves to make broomstick and it can be made into roofs of the huts of people living in slums.
3. the fibres on the kernel can be made into coir and indirectly into door matresses etc.
4.the kernel itself is useful to make decorative items and also
into bowls if u can smoothen the upper surface using a sand paper.

How is the pain for wrist tattoos?
I've heard this on of the most particularly painful spots. I want a gray/black lotus flower there. Wondering about anybody's experiences with wrist tattoos?
How is the pain for wrist tattoos?
I have one on and around each wrist, all over. They don't hurt per se, they're an odd feeling, but it's totally bearable. If you really want a tattoo there the few minutes of uncomfort will be more than worth it.
The outline will be most uncomfortable but that is quick, then colouring in is nothing. They are generally small there too so it's over before you know it. Take a friend or an iPod or something and just don't think about it, then it will be done and you can go home ad enjoy looking at it :)
Oh and it's no way one of the most painful spots compared to others
Reply:i just got a HUGE back piece... that took 3 hrs and it didnt even really hurt so im sure that the wrist wont be that bad and it will probably be done in like 10 min
Reply:Tattoos hurt and i like it!!!
Reply:doesn't hurt
Reply:It's really not that bad..at some spots it will ..i wouldnt say "hurt" bc that's not the word..It's a feeling no one can really describe..
Reply:dont really hurt
Reply:It will hurt-- some. All tattoos hurt some, and if people say they don't, they're liars. But the pain is temporary and will go away eventually. My wrist tattoo was the least painful of all of mine, it DID hurt, but the pain was very easy to deal with, because I have a great artist who keeps my mind off of it. Tattoo pain is very different from other pains, and I guarantee it's not nearly as bad as you expect it to be.
Wrists are definitely NOT the most painful spot for a tattoo-- I've found that the most painful spots are inside the elbows and behind the knees.

How much should this tattoo cost?
I have a tattoo of a lotus flower about 6 inches in width and 5 inches in height in the center of my back. But because the place i went was a tattoo party I think he kind of messed it up.BIG MISTAKE!!!! I plan on retouching and fixing it and also adding angel wings on the side of it that will go to mid back and a clef note at the bottom of the lotus flower. After doing this I feel like the tattoo will be complete.
The place that im going to now is a actual tattoo parlor that looks great and the artist said that they charge by hour, which is 150. He said that he would probably aim for three hours to complete it because I dont want to get it colored in. Do you think thats to much for a good tattoo? Or is it just right?
How much should this tattoo cost?
There is no price limit for a perfect tattoo.
Do not skimp on the tattoo just because of the price. Tattoos are something that should be exactly what you want and very unique, so go for it and spend the money. No idea what it should cost, but like I said--money should be no object.
Reply:$150/hour is average cost for a quality tattoo shop in a large city.
Reply:is the charge dollars or pesos? i think three hours is ok to have 2 tattoos 6 inches each dont know bout the price though if its dollars. if its pesos than i have to know where that tattoo parlor is
Reply:ok for what your saying. i think he is charging too much.
for cover ups i charge 75$ a hour.
what i have in my head as what you want would take 2 to 2 1/2 hrs

Looking for Water Lilies or lotus?
I am desperate looking for "Nymphaea" AKA watter lilies, i would even set up for lotus.
I need to find a florist that can arrange a bouquete of this flowers, and ship it to manhattan, kansas i will pay anything for it. i have being trough several sites but i have only found dead ends. please help me.
Looking for Water Lilies or lotus?
Given enough notice, a florist can arrange to have almost anything made and delivered on time. Best advice is to talk to your local florist for options and prices.
Good luck with your problem.
Reply:As a florist, I can tell you that this is not possible. water lilies are 24 hour "creatures". You might want to consider a silk alternative with fresh greenery and babies breath.

Lotus Tattoo Overdone?
Hey i love the lotus flower tattoo idea, but it seems a little overdone. I wanted something a little more unique, although I do love the meaning of the lotus flower.
What do you guys think?
Lotus Tattoo Overdone?
Your tattoo should reflect your feelings, not anybody elses. If a Lotus is what shakes your tree, do it, you don't have to get a carbon copy of everyone elses. If your tattooist is worth his salt he can make it look like anything you want it to. A good artist will use a stencil only to stay within the parameters you set out, like size or position, the rest is art in it's purist form! People may own a Van Gogh or a Gauguin, but do they wear it on their body?
Reply:if you like the idea and will like it in another 30/40 years to come then yes.
also, as long as you understand the meaning of it, it is somewhat relevant to you and aren't just getting it done because it looks 'cool' now, go for it .
Reply:Pick what you want because you love it and like what it represents. No one has the same taste in tattoos. Just make sure you pick out something you will like looking at your entire life.

Water lillies and lotus?
are water lillies and lotus the same flower?
Water lillies and lotus?
A lotus is a white or pink water lily of the nelumbonaceae family of water lillies, the others being the nymphaeaceae family. The lotus is the only plant to fruit and flower simultaneously. It flowers well above the surface of the water and will also grow in damp soil so may not look like a conventional water lily i.e.a flower sitting on top of the water.
So, a lotus is a water lily but not all water lillies are lotus flowers!
Reply:No - Lotus bloom in June (in the South); there are festivals for this event, they can get six feet high - spectacular.
Water lillies are flowers that generally lay on the surface of the water, and bloom for much longer periods.

What name would you pefer Lotus or Sakura?
Which name do you think is better then they other and plz tell why you think that.
Lotus-Lotus flower
Sakura-Cherry Blossom

Sakura. it reminds me of spring and flowers. This tree blossoms really, really beautiful
Reply:Lotus doesn't sound like a name at all
Reply:Lotus reminds me of Buddhism.
Sakura sounds more romantic.
Reply:Sakura
Isn't Lotus a computer software?
Reply:Sakura, because Lotus sounds a bit pretentious if the name is for a person. It would be like being named Sojourner, Serenity or something New Agey like that. Also, Lotus is a symbol for Buddhism, which is a wonderful philosophy, but much too keen on self-annihilation for my liking.
Reply:Sakura - coz it sounds dainty, pretty and graceful, just like the flower of the same name.
Lotus reminds me of the computer application and the car.
Reply:i like the sound of "sakura".. lotus is a bit shady
Reply:I think Sakura...just because it it less common
in US and UK usage. Lotus would be OK for
a guy. Sakura sounds nice in my ear for either sex.

When does lotus flowers bloom??i heard it blooms(best and not only) at night.?
Lotus is too general a term to give a pinpoint answer .
If by 'Lotus' you mean ' Brahmakamal' , then the answer is yes , it only flowers during night time and that too for a short period and then it begins to deteriorate . The plant does not grow in water . It is a terrestrial or land plant .
the scientific name is Saussurea obvallata
Click on the link below to confirm or reject ==

If by 'Lotus' you mean the true lotus or the one that grows in water and ponds , then it does not bloom at night . In fact it bloos by day and closes the flower at night .
The scientific name is Nymphaea
See the photo ==

Does ANYONE know where to find Lotus?
Where can i get Lotus Blossoms??? I need a bouquet of them for my wedding.
Ive searched up and down the internet, every flower shop in town and the 1800 Flowers numbers. Even plant nurseries and I still cant find them! Any suggestions?
Does ANYONE know where to find Lotus?
My backyard.....Girl truth be told, its going to be hard to find it from a flower shop. Your best bet is to find them fresh from a local site that plants them, they live best in muddy waters.
Reply:The Lotus is my favorite plant, and when my potted ones didn't bloom I looked for some cut ones too. I found none. Unfortunately, they don't last long if picked, so you must get them fresh. If you have any friends with some plants that might be willing to donate some flowers, then that might work. Good luck...

Reply:i hate to dissappoint you dear, but you may not be able to find them unless you find a country pond and go pick them yourself.they do not last once picked,so they are not great for arrangements etc... even though they are beautiful.i have a water garden in my yard and have a lotus growing there.i have tried unsucessfully many times to use them in flower arrangements here at home(which i have done for years).congrats on your wedding and good luck on findingt the flowers!

I am having difficulty obtaining fresh Lotus flowers in the UK. Where or how I can purchase lotus flowers?
Are you looking to buy just the flower? or the plant?
Lotus is not a traditional cut flower. I don't know how it does as a cut flower. It may not be available. Check with a local "high end" florist, they're more likely to bring in such an exotic flower. Large chains or small independents are most likely targeting mainstream customers.
If you're looking for the plant, it is an aquatic plant. You should be able to find it at a local garden center that sells or specializes in garden ponds or water gardens.
I hope that this helps

The Egyptian lotus is a white water lily (Nymphaea lotus). The sacred lotus of the Hindus is an aquatic plant (Nelumbo nucifera) with white or delicate pink flowers; the lotus of eastern North America is Nelumbo pentapetala, a similar plant with yellow blossoms.

Here is a link to a Google images search on the lotus flower:
Reply:Well generally it is pink and white in colour that always grows in the water and most of the buddist deities are seated on this flower when they are featured in paintings or scluptures.
Any of several different plants whose flowers have been given symbolic meaning by many cultures. The lotus of the Greeks is Ziziphus lotus (family Rhamnaceae), a shrub native to southern Europe; wine made from its fruit was thought to produce contentment and forgetfulness.

I am making a model of a flower and i need a material that holds it's form but is moldable for the petals?
i am making a model of a lighting fixture that is in the form of a lotus flower. my model will be lit with an incandesent bulb. i need a material for the petals. so obviously i would need a material that could be close to the light bulb. i have wire that i could cover, but with what? if it was a material that would be easier to work with than covering wire. i need it to be moldable so that i can manipulate the petals. something that lets light through is preffered. so if anyone has any suggestions i would love to hear them. thank you!

use those colour transparent plastics paper... That can be found in bookstores
Reply:Stiff stuff. Seriously @ Walmart craft section. It's glue-like for fabric, dries in the form you mold it while it's wet.

What is some symbolism behind Koi fish and Lotus flowers?
The Lotus starts as an ugly bulb at the bottom of a silty, muddy pond, and slowly grows towards the surface where it blossoms into a beautiful flower, so it is symbolic of a positive metamorphosis, especially in Asian cultures.
Koi represent perserverence as they swim up fast flowing streams and jump over waterfalls.
What is some symbolism behind Koi fish and Lotus flowers?
i dont get a bit of tht.

Why does the Goddess Lakshmi sit on a lotus flower?
LAKSHMI IS NEVER SEEN SITTING OR STANDING ON A WHITE LOTUS. IT IS PINK LOTUS. who ever said before me as white lotus and as symbol of purity are wrong.
No coming to the question -
Lakshmi is the Goddess of wealth and prosperity, both material and spiritual. The word ''Lakshmi'' is derived from the Sanskrit word Laksme, meaning "goal." Lakshmi, therefore, represents the goal of life, which includes worldly as well as spiritual prosperity. In Hindu mythology, Goddess Lakshmi, also called Shri, is the divine spouse of Lord Vishnu and provides Him with wealth for the maintenance and preservation of the creation.
In Her images and pictures, Lakshmi is depicted in a female form with four arms and four hands. She wears red clothes with a golden lining and is standing on a lotus. She has golden coins and lotuses in her hands. Two elephants (some pictures show four) are shown next to the Goddess. This symbolism conveys the following spiritual theme:
The four arms represent the four directions in space and thus symbolize omnipresence and omnipotence of the Goddess. The red color syinbolizes activity. The golden lining (embroidery) on Her red dress denotes prosperity. The idea conveyed here is that the Goddess is always busy distributing wealth and prosperity to the devotees. The lotus seat, which Lakshmi is standing upon, signifies that while living in this world, one should enjoy its wealth, but not become obsessed with it. Such a living is analogous to a lotus that grows in water but is not wetted by water.
The four hands represent the four ends of human life: dharma (righteousness), kama (genuine desires), artha (wealth), and moksha (liberation from birth and death). The front hands represent the activity in the physical world and the back hands indicate the spiritual activities that lead to spiritual perfection.
Since the right side of the body symbolizes activity, a lotus in the back right hand conveys the idea that one must perform all duties in the world in accordance with dharma. This leads to moksha (liberation), which is symbolized by a lotus in the back left hand of Lakshmi. The golden coins falling on the ground from the front left hand of Lakshmi illustrate that She provides wealth and prosperity to Her devotees. Her front right hand is shown bestowing blessings upon the devotees.
The two elephants standing next to the Goddess symbolize the name and fame associated with worldly wealth. The idea conveyed here is that a true devotee should not earn wealth merely to acquire name and fame or only to satisfy his own material desires, but should share it with others in order to bring happiness to others in addition to himself.
Some pictures show four elephants spraying water from golden vessels onto Goddess Lakshmi. The four elephants represent the four ends of human life as discussed above. The spraying of water denotes activity. The golden vessels denote wisdom and purity. The four elephants spraying water from the golden vessels on the Goddess illustrate the theme that continuous self-effort, in accordance with one's dharma and govemed by wisdom and purity, leads to both material and spiritual prosperity.
Goddess Lakshmi is regularly worshipped in home shrines and temples by Her devotees. A special worship is offered to Her annually on the auspicious day of Diwali, with religious rituals and colorful ceremonies specifically devoted to Her. -

The basis of Hinduism is non-violence. Hindu should follow this principle of non-violence at every cost. But during early stages of human civilization, people were of ignorant of this fact and started killing animals to satisfy their carnal desires. So some wiseman starting depicting that the animals are vehicles of God and so should not be harmed. e.g. Mice is vehicle of Lord Ganesha and we believe harming mice is bringing ill-fate as that would upset Lord Ganesha. The same story goes with Cow who is associated with Lord Krishna or Garuda which is associated with Lord Vishnu, Snakes with Lord Shiva and so on. The same is the case with Lotus. Lotus brings life back to Lake and lake looks beautiful due to Lotus. Since everybody wants to enjoy this devine look, and someone thought picking Lotus from lake will destroy its beauty, they associated Pink Lotus with Goddess Lakshmi and White Lotus with Goddess Saraswati. The fact is we all know Ma Laskmi always sits near feets of Lord Vishnu. So where does this Lotus come from.
My suggestion is look at this fact from Hinduism point of view and mythology has nothing to do with.
I hope I have answered your question.

Reply:Most of the images that the Hindus worship are symbolical. Lord Vishnu is said to be in a state of yoganidhra and his consort, goddess Lakshmi is dwelling in his heart, on the lotus. Lotus is often referred to the seat of various yogic points in the points, which a yoga practitioner is familiar with.
Reply:The lotus motif is a very major ingredient in Hindu theological texts, art and architecture. The vedic verses and other literature use the simile of lotus as the ultimate description of beauty. See RamCharitManas: Sri Ramachandra Kripalu... , the word kanja is repeatedly used to describe the beauty of various parts of the Lord. In Shree Suktam, padme sthitam, padma varnaam, padmini, padmamalini, padmapriya, padmahasa, padmalaya, padmadalayatakshi are the words used.
The upanishads liken the heart as a lotus, in the middle of which the Divinity is supposed to reside. Hridpundareeka is the word used, Hence the seating of Lakshmi, on a lotus flower, also called shatadal, (kamal,rajeeva.ambuj.pankaj etc),a flower with 100 (=umpteen) petals, symbolises the permanant station of the bountiful Mother Goddess in one's heart.

Why a lotus flower grow in mud water only ?
Because the God is very intelligent, he always keep beauty near
the bad things, because people mind is very bad if they find it in open they will cut it out. So the God keep it in mud water.
Why a lotus flower grow in mud water only ?
Not exactly mud water, but water. Coming to point, It is God's plan, no answer. Scientifically, it needs water, the stem anatomy is such. Also, it gives indication to human beings that even in bad circumstances, you can be very good.

Y lotus is our national flower?
iam an indian.tiger is majestic and a symbol of bravery so it is our national animal.so y is lotus our national flower??
Y lotus is our national flower?
Lotus scientifically known as Nelumbo Nucifera is the National Flower of India. It is a sacred flower and occupies a unique position in the art and mythology of ancient India and has been an auspicious symbol of Indian culture since time immemorial. The Lotus symbolises divinity, fertility, wealth, knowledge and not to forget enlightenment. Lending to its uniqueness, the flower grows in murky waters and rises on a long stalk above the surface to bloom glorious. It is also a symbol of triumph, since the lotus is rooted in the mud and can survive to regerminate for thousands of years. It represents long life, honor, and good fortune.
Untouched by the impurity, lotus symbolises the purity of heart and mind. Human beings are instructed by Indian scripture to live a life of non-attachment, which is very hard. The lotus holds additional significance for Hindus, as it is a symbol of God and used often in religious practices. Then in Indian thought, there is the last and final lotus - Charan Kamal or lotus feet of the Almighty. It was this depth of thought that made the founding fathers of modern India enshrine the lotus in the Constitution as the National Flower.
Reply:Though Lotus grows from water, if you watch, the drops of water never binds the petals. It symbolises how you should live and lead the life, like the lotus in the water. You need to be in this world and never get bonded !!!
Reply:Because it grows in dirty mud and water and is unique to India.

What does a blue lotus symbolize?
I'm planning to get a lotus tattooed on my body soon. I know and understand the general meaning of lotuses, religiously, historically and philosophically.
And I know that the different colors of the lotus flowers have separate meanings. Does anyone specifically know the meaning of a blue lotus?
What does a blue lotus symbolize?
This is the symbol of the victory of the spirit over the senses, of intelligence and wisdom, of knowledge. It is always represented as a partially opened bud, and (unlike the red lotus) its centre is never seen. It is the lotus of Manjusri, and also one of the attributes of Prajnaparamita, the embodiment of the 'perfection of wisdom'.
Reply:You avatar's name, start with ani- are you a Buddhist Nun of Tibetan Buddhism?
I do believe most of the descriptions from web site referred seems to be correct, except most Manjushri's thankgas I saw from three of my schools, where I attend my training all still showing Manjushri sat on Pinkish red lotus flower throne?
However, there are some Bodhisattvas holding blue lotus flowers, most noticeable is Mahāsthāmaprāpta, the Bodhisattva standing on left hand side of Buddha Amitabha.
Else, just the Angry Buddha Dharmapalas are standing on the Blue Lotus thrones.

Reply:A blue lotus is just a special flower, different from pink lotuses.
Reply:It mean just what any member of man-kind wants other to believe..... But in reality it just a beautiful colored plant.............

What specifically does the red lotus mean in Buddhism?
I am thinking about getting a tattoo of a red lotus flower, b/c to my understanding it means compassion and love and all things having to do with the heart. Is this correct? Could anyone verify this, and perhaps give me a more in depth description of what a red lotus might mean? thanks :)
What specifically does the red lotus mean in Buddhism?
Think about it. Tattoos are rather permanent. Try a temporary first. Most Tatoo parlors would be glad to give you one. It lasts about 1 year, unless you really scrub the area with special soap.
Reply:red represents passion and love, Lotus is also the position in meditation.
Reply:Red Lotus-
This symbolizes the original nature of the heart (hrdaya). It is the lotus of love, compassion, passion, activity and all the qualities of the heart. It is the lotus of Avalokitesvara.

Tell me about lotus flower, jasmine flower, lily flower, sunflower, beetal leaf and peapal leaf?
LOTUS has many definitions. Depending on the context, it may refer to:
The genus Nelumbo, with two members:
Indian, Red or Sacred Lotus, a sacred plant of Hinduism and Buddhism and of the Ancient Egyptian civilisation, also used in Asian cuisine
American Lotus
The genus Lotus, in the subfamily Faboideae in the family Fabaceae, common name "Trefoil"
The genus Nymphaea, usually called water-lilies, but including many members also referred to as lotus, for example the White European Lotus, White Egyptian Lotus, and Blue Egyptian Lotus
The lotus eaten by the Lotophagi of the Odyssey is thought to have been Ziziphus lotus, a species of jujube. This could be the Lotus Tree that the mythical Lotis was transformed into
"Lotus" also occurs in the common, or cultivar, names of numerous unrelated plants, for example the Snow Lotus in the family Asteraceae
JASMINE
Jasmine (Jasminum) is a genus of shrubs and vines in the Family Oleaceae, with about 200 species, native to tropical and warm temperate regions of the Old World. The majority of species grow as climbers on other plants or on structures. The leaves can be either evergreen or deciduous, and are opposite in most species; leaf shape is simple, trifoliate or pinnate with up to nine leaflets.
Jasmine flowers are white in most species, but with some species being yellow flowered. Unlike most genera in the Oleaceae which have four corolla lobes ('petals'), jasmines often have five or six lobes. They are often strongly and sweetly scented. Flowering is in spring or summer in most species, but in a few species, notably J. nudiflorum, in winter on the bare branches of this deciduous species.
The common name 'jasmine' is often given to unrelated plants with pale, sweetly-scented flowers and dark green leaves, such as Trachelospermum species (Confederate or star jasmine), Gardenia jasminoides (Cape jasmine), Cestrum nocturnum (Night blooming jasmine) and Gelsemium species (Carolina jasmine).
LILY (Lilium)
The plants of the genus Lilium are the true lily plants, comprising a genus of about 100 species in the lily family, Liliaceae. They are important as showy and large flowered garden plants, and in literature.
Range
Lilies are native to the northern temperate regions. Their range in the Old World extends across much of Europe, the north Mediterranean, across most of Asia to Japan, south to the Nilgiri mountains in India, and south to the Philippines. In the New World they extend from southern Canada through much of the United States. A few species formerly included within this genus have now been placed in other genera. These include Cardiocrinum and Nomocharis.
They are commonly adapted to either woodland habitats, often montane, or sometimes to grassland habitats. A few can survive in marshland and a single one is known to live as an epiphyte (L. arboricola). In general they prefer moderately acidic or lime-free soils.
Botany
Lilies are usually erect leafy stemmed herbs. The majority of species form naked or tunic-less scaly underground bulbs from which they overwinter. In some North American species the base of the bulb develops into rhizomes, on which numerous small bulbs are found. Some species develop stolons. A few species form bulbs at or near the soil surface .
Many species form stem-roots. With these, the bulb grows naturally at some depth in the soil, and each year the new stem puts out adventitious roots above the bulb as it emerges from the soil. These roots are in addition to the basal roots that develop at the base of the bulb.
The large flowers have three petals along with three petal-like sepals, often fragrant, and come in a range of colours ranging through whites, yellows, oranges, pinks, reds, purples, bronze and even nearly black. Markings include spots, brush strokes and picotees.
The plants are summer flowering. Most species are deciduous, but Lilium candidum bears a basal rosette of leaves for much of the year. Flowers are formed at the top of a single erect stem, with leaves being borne at intervals up the stem.
SUNFLOWER
The sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is an annual plant in the family Asteraceae, with a large flower head (inflorescence). The stem of the flower can grow up to 3 metres tall, with the flower head reaching 30cm in diameter. The term "sunflower" is also used to refer to all plants of the genus Helianthus, many of which are perennial plants
BEETAL LEAF (could that be leaf beetle? If so,:)
The beetle family Chrysomelidae, the leaf beetles, is a family of over 35,000 species in more than 2,500 genera.
Leaf beetles are recognizable by their tarsal formula and distinguished from long-horned beetles (family Cerambycidae) by their short, filiform antennae. Adult and larval leaf beetles feed on all sorts of plant tissue. Many are economically important pests of agriculture, for example the colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata), the asparagus beetle (Crioceris asparagi), the cereal leaf beetle (Oulema melanopus), and various flea beetles.

Why is the lotus (flower) so significant in buddhism?
The lotus (Sanskrit and Tibetan padma) is one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols and one of the most poignant representations of Buddhist teaching.
The roots of a lotus are in the mud, the stem grows up through the water, and the heavily scented flower lies pristinely above the water, basking in the sunlight. This pattern of growth signifies the progress of the soul from the primeval mud of materialism, through the waters of experience, and into the bright sunshine of enlightenment.
Though there are other water plants that bloom above the water, it is only the lotus which, owing to the strength of its stem, regularly rises eight to twelve inches above the surface.
According to the Lalitavistara, "the spirit of the best of men is spotless, like the lotus in the muddy water which does not adhere to it."
According to another scholar, "in esoteric Buddhism, the heart of the beings is like an unopened lotus: when the virtues of the Buddha develop therein, the lotus blossoms; that is why the Buddha sits on a lotus bloom."
The lotus is one of Buddhism's best recognized motifs and appears in all kinds of Buddhist art across all Buddhist cultures. Scrolling lotuses often embellish Buddhist textiles, ceramics and architecture.
Every important Buddhist deity is associated in some manner with the lotus, either being seated upon a lotus in full bloom or holding one in their hands. In some images of standing Buddhas, each foot rests on a separate lotus.
Why is the lotus (flower) so significant in buddhism?
Lotus flowers grow in a dirty muddy marsh so it tells buddhists that even in the worst circumstances something beautiful can come out of it.
Reply:Because it's a beautiful flower that grows in mud. It symbolizes beauty coming from what is not beautiful.
%26lt;edit%26gt; "Borrowing from Hinduism, in Buddhist symbolism, the lotus represents purity of body, speech, and mind, floating above the muddy waters of attachment and desire. "
Reply:My PC wont Let me paste the article but theres a really good explanation on this site.
Reply:In Hinduism, the lotus (Sanskrit: padma) primarily represents beauty and non-attachment. The lotus is rooted in the mud but floats on the water without becoming wet or muddy. This symbolizes how how one should live in the world in order to gain release from rebirth: without attachment to one's surroundings.
"One who performs his duty without attachment, surrendering the results unto the Supreme Lord, is unaffected by sinful action, as the lotus leaf is untouched by water."
-- Bhagavad Gita 5.10

Reply:when someone attains nirvana or enlightenment, he sees 1000 of lotus in his meditation.
so it symbolises everything in a way because that's the final stage of meditation.
there is more above to go and to know, but that will be your personal experience. no one has ever said anything about the stage after enlightenment or nirvana.
chakras or wheel of energy in your body, the spinal cord more precisely. also called kundalini power or serpent power.
Reply:hmmm... a symbol of purity? either way, lotus seeds are yummy.
Reply:Lotus flowers are actually herbs...interesting huh?
I think it symbolizes rebirth because at night it goes under water and in the morning it comes back up.

I need to find a close up picture of the lotus flower on sophie andertons lower back. please help?
closest i could find was http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A9iby4JKQDZF8R...
If you're thinking of getting it tattooed... You can print off the picture and show it to your atrist. He/She should then be able to get a pretty good idea of what you want and then draw it out. Then, it will be unique and custom all for you.

Can you give me a pragraph about the flower lotus?
Here is a paragraph from the first site I've included. Do a search and you will get lots of ideas. Best of luck with it.
"The lotus flower appeared in legends originating from ancient Egypt. It played an important part in ancient Egyptian religion. The pure white lotus flower, the only plant to fruit and flower simultaneously, emerges from the depths of the muddy swamp. Growing from the mud at the bottom of ponds and streams, the exquisite Lotus flower rises above the water and is usually white or pink with 15 or more oval, spreading petals, and a peculiar, flat seedcase at its center. "

Sanskrit character for lotus flower???
Can anyone give me a good source to look at to find sanskrit characters? I am looking to get a wrist tattoo and what I want is the sanskrit character that means lotus. I have been able to find only one image of this and its not a very good image. So any help with web links and such would be great! Thanks one and all!
Sanskrit character for lotus flower???
You can try looking for images of the mantra " OM Mani Padme HUM", as "padme" means "lotus" (as you probably already know). There are TONS of illustrations of this mantra in many different styles, so you should have no problems finding one that you like.

Can someone give me some links on cute azz ankle tattoos..thinking lotus flower,..stars...something?
You need to check out tattoo places in your area. You don't just need a good design, you want a good artist who can show you pictures of his or her work to know they can do it right.
Can someone give me some links on cute azz ankle tattoos..thinking lotus flower,..stars...something?
I'd go and chat with a tattoo artist about your likes and dislikes, they know far better than we could talk you what would work for you and your body size, shape etc.
Reply:I just gave my artist an idea and he sketched a really nice piece on me. It starts on the outside of my right ankle and comes down my foot. Its cherry blossoms in black outline with a really neat fade/shade effect with some pedals drifting off the blossoms. But anyway, I think you should look at www.tattooNOW.com for some ideas and you dont neccesarily have to get the same tat that you see just look for some things that fit your style, interests, lifestyle, etc and give the idea to a local artist and see what they can fix up for you...
Reply:This site is really cool. Not only does it give you great ideas but it has a try it out package that sends you a really cool paper where you can print it off and place it where you want it to make sure you like it. This fake tattoo can last up to two weeks. Then you can buy the drawings from $9.00 to $15.00 depending on the artist who drew it.
Then you can bring this design to the tattoo shop and they should use this design.
Just read the site its great!!

Reply:Please....before you get some "cataloged" tattoo...seriously consider what you love, and have someone design it for you. Often a good artist will design one for you, and have original designs to sort of give you an idea of the type of work they are good at.

Reply:How about different coloured elephants connecting tail to trunk all the way around. I always wanted to get that but I am a chicken lol
Reply:Is there any chance you can draw? Or have a really good printer?
I recently had my foot and ankle tattooed with different flowers and stars on a vine all connecting. I decided to design it myself so went on the search for flowers I liked. I ended up finding flowers for birth signs and got one for me, my parents and my brother. I love this tattoo so much and love looking at it!!! It is truly beautiful. Probably because it's everything I wanted! I was lucky enough to have the tattooist use my exact design as he said it was perfect!
If you're not that way inclined you could just print off pictures and ask a tattooist to do something with them for you. This is a much better idea than paying for a design that every tom, dick and harry has access to!
Good luck!!!

After you have that row then work your square by chaning three and working two dc.ch 2.then work 3 cd in first connecting chain loop, then work 3 dc, ch 2, 3 cd, ch 1 in the rest of the loops.
This will give you a five sided square but you can sew or slip them together and they will create a very pretty and uique aphgan. You just stager the end. Give it a try with a few squares and see what ya think.

Reply:I checked several sites and the most of them show the flowers being sewn on top of the granny square. You can do it that way or sew a couple of the petals together and then fasten them to the purse.
